Girl Scout Troup #50464 of Norwalk, CT joined Yankee Council trippers on a weekend stay at Woodford, VT’s HI-Greenwood Lodge on September 25-27, 2009. Activities included biking on the historic rail-trail of the former Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington RR, locally called the “Hoot, Toot & Whistle RR.” The trail winds along the shoreline of the Harriman Reservoir, west of Wilmington, VT. The ride starts near foundations of an abandoned shop adjacent to the former roadbed and opposite a former lumber mill, called “Mountain Mills”, on the opposite reservoir shore. This stretch of the railroad was abandoned after massive washouts of the 1938 New England hurricane.
